Well…I thought I would be a whole lot more diligent with keeping up with this blog…but my track record seems to reveal my obvious lack of writing for the past 6 or so months! On the plus side though- these past six months have been a blast and well I have been so busy enjoying our son and family life that blogging has taken a backseat!
A lot has happened and I hope to be able to give a good summary of it all :)
Our son is hands down the sunshine of our life! Right now he is 21 months old and bursting at the seams with happiness, joy, and a zeal to live life to the fullest! He wakes up ready for the day and always greets us with a “Hi Mommy!” or “Hi Daddy!” A “Guh Mohnin” usually follows that and then he starts talking about whatever is on his mind! Often times he talks to me about the angels in his room and points to where they are!
He is always busy! He is talking a ton and loves to read all by himself!
A typical morning consists of snuggle time in the rocker where we sing and read together followed by Mister Independent asking me to do it “By self…Elijah do it”. Meaning…mommy get off the rocker and let me rock and read solo!
Then we go into the kitchen where he asks for the same thing- juice and water, puffs and Elmo. His face lights up when he climbs up onto the couch with his juice sippy cup and small bowl of cereal while mommy turns on Elmo! I then ask him what he would like for breakfast and he let me know that he wants “oh meal”! So…most mornings he will have a bowl of oatmeal along with some yogurt or eggs.
Elijah definitely has his favorite food requests- puffs, oatmeal, muffins, pancakes, hummus and my favorite request- pad thai! Yes…he asks for pad thai almost daily and when we take him to an Asian restaurant I think he says it like 15x! He LOVES to eat and is not picky! Whatever I cook or is served he will pretty much eat (and close to an adult portion…I might add!)
Aside of food, Elijah is really into swimming! He shows no fear and proudly states when he goes “unda wata”! He can’t wait to be an independent swimmer and he loves to jump in or off of anything that will land him in the water! We just started a group swim class and the teacher told me he is really exceptional and the star of the class!
He is also the most social person I know. EVERYWHERE we go Elijah is making friends with his sweet little voice echoing “HI!!!” His giant grin and happy self wins him friends instantly!
At 3 months shy of 2 Elijah is doing extremely well with his understanding/ comprehension of words and language. He can sing songs like Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Ba Ba Black Sheep and likes to sing along and fill in the blanks to Your are My Sunshine and the little lullaby I wrote him I Love You Elijah! He is also working on singing his ABC’s and counting to 10- he almost has it!
He loves books that he can memorize what things are. His Nana has this book called Things that Go that has dozens of pictures with names and he gets so proud when he learns them…an example of what he can identity would be- kayak, blimp, limo, dump truck…you get the idea J His Grandma Bear just gave him a book called Little Baseball and he has already learned 90% of the pictures in a few short days- baseball, bat, home plate, score board, umpire, and hot dog to name a few!
We are constantly amazed by how quickly he is learning to say and do new things!
He is also learning the concept of what is Elijah’s, Mommy’s, etc. Elijah’s bowl, Mommy’s cup, Daddy’s towel- he pretty much identifies the ownership of every item that crosses his busy mind!
With Daddy he loves to- play tackle, get tickled, throw the ball, ride bikes, swim and read. Gerrid has the privilege of praying with Elijah every night and having a special time right before E goes to bed. I can usually hear Elijah laughing as his daddy tickles him in his crib just before kissing him goodnight. It is music to my ears!
With me Elijah loves to read books, sing songs, dance, play in the kitchen, help me with anything (getting the mail, cleaning the table, vacuuming), get tickled (he lays on the ground on his back and says to me “tickle time?”), and when I am lucky- snuggle!
When Elijah wants to be held he will say “Momma hold you? Or Daddy hold you?” Sometimes to be funny Gerrid will say here Elijah you can hold Daddy’s leg- to which Elijah’s little face lights up as he proudly holds his Daddy’s leg!
He has also learned that when he hurts or bumps himself, we will give him a kiss on his booboo…so ANYTIME he bumps anything he will say “Eljah bump (toe, knee, bum, mouth.etc) and then walk over for his kiss. Afterwards he tells us “all betta”.
The Evolution of Elijah’s Words!
- Water- first it was “wahden” and now it is “wata- said with a Bostonian sounding accent!)
- Please = Peas
- Thank you= tang you
- Sorry= Sawee
- Bathing Suit= baby suit
- Food items- ohmeal, ice cweam, cewheel, nana, bocklee,
- Motorcycle- first a “momo” now a “mamacyle”
He is definitely in parrot mode and tries to imitate as much as possible. He usually tries to reproduce a few words out of a sentence and does a really good job at repeating what he hears! Whenever he gets in trouble and we have to explain what was wrong he tries to summarize it- most recently he has been into licking things…so he will look at me after saying “sawee” and then say “Elijah no, no, no lickin funchure”
Favorite Books- Baby Bible, Goodnight Moon, Things that Go, Truck Books, Dr. Seuss ABC’s, A Mother for Choco, Seahorse Book, Little Baseball, You are My Sunshine, and No Monkeys Jumping on the Bed
There is probably so much that I am leaving out…so often I find myself closing my eyes and just taking in a moment…I am trying to savor every bit of life with Elijah…it is so precious and such a gift!
I am one blessed momma!
